FAQ’s
Is there a membership fee to join? Yes and no – We charge a nominal one-time fee of $25, and it’s included in your first month’s rent. We only do this because it gives us certain flexibility in terms of how we want to use the space from a zoning perspective. This fee does not apply to any short-term storage options which are priced accordingly. However, it does afford you use of our lounge and invitations to events we host such as cars and coffee, car shows, drives, and more. The $25 fee is the only membership due you will ever have to pay, and it is not recurring.
Do I need an appointment to pick up and drop off my car? NO! – You are free to pick up and drop off your car any time you like, 24x7! This is part of what makes us special – no annoying texts, phone calls, or appointments with the owner are necessary. You car is not buried behind 3 other cars. This is a core tenet of our philosophy – The Carriage House Garage is here to ensure you retain the freedom and joy your vehicle brings you as an extention of your own garage. However, if you need assistance from anyone on-site, please let us know and we’ll be happy to help.
Do I have assigned space? Yes – Your space is yours, and nobody is allowed to park there but you.
What size car can I fit? Pretty much anything, however limousines and hearses or other over-sized vehicles may require a conversation. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about the vehicle you wish to store.
Does my car need to be in operating condition? No – If you have a project car you need to store, you are welcome. We may put the car on rolling “skates” in case it needs to be moved more easily, depending on the condition. Please reach out and let us know, we’re happy to discuss your specific needs.
Do you store motorcycles? Yes – In fact, this is one of our specialties. You have a dedicated space JUST for motorcycles, with a shelf unit behind each space. You have access to the lounge, and soon we will offer a motorcycle lift. Feel good knowing you can leave your helmets, jackets, all the gear you need to ride safely in our facility and be ready to ride any time!
Do you offer short-term parking? Yes - Please see our pricing page for details and reach out to us with your specific needs. This option is based on space availability.
Do you offer a “winter only” option? Yes - Please see our pricing page for details. Winter storage runs from November 1 to May 1. We can be flexible on the dates given the volatile nature of Michigan weather, so please reach out to us directly and we can discuss it on a case-by-case basis. You can pay monthly, or pre-pay for a discount. Note: Winter only storage may entail having your car on the 2nd level of a lift.
Can I park my daily driver on the premises while I take out my vehicle? Yes – There is space behind the facility where you can park (near the garage door entrance) or you can put your daily driver in your assigned space inside.
Do you offer vehicle transport? Sort of - Please inquire about having us pick up your vehicle or drop it off at your home. Fees will vary. We can also discuss pick up of a vehicle you have just purchased, within reason. We do not farm out this service to a 3rd party, this is one in-house with our shop vehicle.
Where are you located? We are conveniently located right at M-59 and Crooks, and 3.5 miles north of I-75. There are gas stations on either side of us, as well as a brewery!
What kind of insurance coverage do you have and what happens to my car if something happens to the building? This is a great question, and one you should be asking other facilities if you are considering them. We carry a comprehensive vehicle storage policy, and a declaration page is available to you in the member portal should your car insurance company require it. In addition, you need to ensure that your insurance covers your vehicle being stored at the facility. A copy of your valid proof of insurance is required for you to store your car here. If it expires during your storage term, you are required to provide updated proof of insurance. We will track your expiration date and send you a reminder as well.
What does secure mean? Security means several things to us. First, it means that our facility and especially the garage entry door are not visible from the road. There is a front door, but garage access is at the rear of the building. It means there are multiple state of the art cameras with a 30-day recording capacity, which you as a Member can access any time via our “Car-Cam” in the Member Portal. Lastly, it means that access is only granted via RFID tags and magnetic locks on all the doors. Only members and their guests are allowed in.
What other services do you offer? Please see our link to photography services or directly inquire if you wish to have professional photos done of your vehicle prior to a sale, or just for posterity.
Can I work on my car? Yes and no. At this time, we don’t allow “dirty” work but things such as swapping tires, cleaning, and other activities that don’t disturb other member vehicles is allowed. We have an industrial vacuum, air compressor with hoses and attachments, an assortment of tools, power washer, floor jack, jack stands, and casters available for your use. There may be a point in the future where we will offer a lift and a dedicated “dirty space” if demand is high enough. If you are interested in this, please let us know so we can keep track of demand and adjust accordingly.
Do you offer detailing services? Not directly at this time, but there are detail shops close by that we can recommend and have personal experience with.
How long is my pricing good for? Your pricing is good for the length of your contract terms, and year-over-year increases for existing members will be capped at 3% if there are any changes at all. Any increases will be communicated a minimum of 3 months in advance.
Do I keep my keys? Yes - however you will be required to leave a set of keys that will be accessible only by the owner for emergencies as well as monthly start up if you choose to have that. Your keys will be locked in a fireproof safe.
Can I put my vehicle on a battery tender? Yes - battery tending is included with your base fee, for both lithium and lead acid batteries. Battery tenders are provided by the facility, or you can bring your own. There are tons of power outlets throughout the facility.
Can I have services done on location such as windshield replacement or paintless dent removal? Yes, that’s no problem. Just notify us in advance when this happens. You will be responsible for meeting the repair technicians on site, however if the time is pre-arranged we can also meet the repair technicians for you.
